Retouching Options
We do two kinds of retouching on the photos we take: minor retouching and major retouching. These are each a completely separate process, as described below, and
some photos require them more than others. Minor retouching is included with every photo we take. Major retouching is included with a few photos based on the package
you decide to purchase.

Minor Retouching
Minor retouching is applied to all of our images. First, we adjust the 'color temperature' to increase warmth and bring out more natural skin tones.
Then we adjust the contrast, lighting, highlights, and shadows to make the photo come alive and appear more three dimensional. This is followed by
tweaking the saturation and vibrance, along with applying custom tonal curves, if needed.
Minor retouching is a manual process. We look at and work on each image individually; not using a computer controlled automated script.

Major Retouching
Major retouching is used on portraits or candids featuring prominent human subjects. Major retouching starts by tagging skin areas and applying a variety
of spot removal filters that clear away acne, blemishes, and sometimes even scars, as well as lessening wrinkles. This is followed by
a filter to soften the skin and diffuse specular highlights that can be caused by intense studio lights or sunlight and exacerbated by sweat.
This is followed with filters to add sharpness, vibrance, and depth to the subject's face. Teeth receive some whitening, and lips can be
smoothed to reduce a chapped appearance and receive increased saturation to bring out color. Eyes, often called "windows to the soul" in poetry, get
special treatment as they are at the heart of any good portrait. Contrast is increased to brighten the eye white and darken the pupil, and vibrance
and sharpness are added to the iris to bring out the color and add depth.
If necessary, this is all followed by treatment to saturate the color in the subjects hair, and apply softening filters to make it appear smoother and
silkier.
If requested, major retouching can be used to make limited creative changes to photos such as reddening or desaturating hair, changing eye and/or lip color,
and possibly even removing a few pounds from the subject's face. Please talk to us for details and limitations before assuming any of these alterations
can be made, though.
